Seeking all forms of art and literature (not propaganda and rhetoric) on the following themes. Please view them in the context of AFAC objectives, goals and guiding vision.
The Last River
Environment – destruction and protection
Addressing the failure of current systems to sustain our living Earth by empowering community. No pipelines, sustainable living, clean energy, art of protest, urban sprawl, loss of diversity.
Call Me Christy
Societal prejudices and taboos
Disarming the taboos around claiming our power as citizens. Experiences and impacts of systemic prejudices based on class, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion, culture, ableism, ageism.
People’s history – understandings and outcomes
Displacing negative cultural group-think; disrupting hypnotic media. Truth and Reconciliation, Indigenous genocide, usurpation of voice, cultural appropriation, racism against people of Color.
Bread and Roses
Urban inequality, poverty and homelessness
When existing systems fail, what replaces them? Inequality of power, resulting apathy; and how to halt community fragmentation. Loss of life, voice and possessions; tent cities, ‘fentanyl’ deaths.
Voices in the Rain
Voice – expression, silencing and appropriation
Listening to suppressed voices. Moving away from violence, and into holistic harmony. Indigenous, people of color, LGBTQ, welfare recipients, people with disabilities, women, refugees, seniors, youth.
Themes overlap and inter-sect. See how well any or all of them reflect in your performance.
